Who We Are

Aging Matters Psychological Services, P.C., is a professional service firm of psychologists and other associates dedicated to the psychosocial well-being of older adults.  We were founded in 2005.

Our key executives and administrators are:  

  • Pat Tomasso, Ph.D. - President & Clinical Director
  • Joel Mausner, Ph.D. - Vice President & Business Director
  • Anne D'Alessandro, B.Sc. - Executive Assistant & Insurance Administrator

Our staff mainly consist of a carefully selected and talented group of doctoral-level psychologists, who are interested in working with older adults and subscribe to our core philosophy: that aging truly matters.



Pat Tomasso, Ph.D.  -  President & Clinical Director

Dr. Tomasso is the owner/founder, as well as president and clinical director of Aging Matters Psychological Services, P.C.  In this capacity, she works to establish a strong and collaborative psychology presence in nursing homes, assisted living residences and other senior care facilities.  She hires, trains and supervises talented psychologists to provide psychological services in these facilities.  In addition, she maintains a close liaison with facility staff, oversees quality control, and offers an extensive array of in-service training.  

Dr. Tomasso has been a practicing Clinical Psychologist for twenty years, and has worked as a Clinical Geropsychologist in the senior care industry for eighteen years. 

Prior to establishing Aging Matters, Dr. Tomasso provided direct clinical and consulting services at multiple Westchester and NYC senior care facilities, including the Port Chester Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre, the Kings Harbor Multi-Care Center, the Hebrew Hospital Home, and the Village Adult Day Care Center.  In addition, she worked for seven years as a staff trainer and process consultant for the NYC Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, where she co-designed and co-led training workshops for senior care facilities across the five boroughs and Westchester.  She also designed and led similar workshops as a training consultant for the Brookdale Center on Aging.  (For a more detailed list of the numerous senior care and related organizations that Dr. Tomasso has worked with over the years, click on "Our Clients" to the left.)

Dr. Tomasso is an active member of various professional organizations, including the Adult Development and Aging Divisions of both the NY State and American Psychological Associations, and the APA Section on Clinical Geropsychology.  She served for 5 years on the governing board of the NYSPA Division on Adult Development and Aging - including a term as President.  And she also served for 5 years on the steering committee for the Yeshiva-Ferkauf Graduate School Older Adult Program.  In addition, Dr. Tomasso is a member of the Central Westchester Geriatric Committee, the Geriatric Mental Health Alliance, the Gerontological Society of America, and Psychologists in Long Term Care.

Dr. Tomasso received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the City University of NY, which included a clinical internship at Montefiore Hospital.  She earned a B.A. in psychology from New York University. 

In addition to her work with Aging Matters, Dr. Tomasso maintains a private psychology practice in White Plains, where she specializes in psychotherapy, family therapy, and consultation services for older adults and their caregivers. 


Joel Mausner, Ph.D.  -  Vice President & Business Director

Dr. Mausner has 30+ years experience as an expert in human behavior, group dynamics, organization talent and structure, and leadership effectiveness.  He consults to enterprises and advises leaders from a wide range of fields, spanning the healthcare, non-profit and corporate sectors.  As needed, he works as an executive coach, a management trainer, an organization development advisor, and as a group facilitator for management and organizational retreats.  He also conducts a private coaching practice, advising clients on a wide range of career development and other workplace issues.  Dr. Mausner's main specialization is building management team effectiveness, including extensive work with chief executives and their leadership teams.

Dr. Mausner's experience in the healthcare arena is especially robust.  Early in his career, he worked as a staff clinical psychologist in multiple healthcare settings, and he also conducted a private practice in psychotherapy.  He served for more than a decade as Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychology in Psychiatry at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, teaching and mentoring trainees, managing treatment programs, conducting staff and team development, and advising program leaders.  More recently, in his 15+ years as an independent consultant, Dr. Mausner has conducted major projects with well-known medical centers, such as NY-Presbyterian, Montefiore, and St. Lukes-Roosevelt, and he has worked with a wide variety of smaller hospitals, clinics and other healthcare-related enterprises, spanning mental health, aids care, geriatric care, health insurance, and pharmaceuticals.

Dr. Mausner received a B.A. in History from Yale, an M.Phil. in Philosophy from Columbia, and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the City University of NY.  He studied group dynamics at the AK Rice Institute, and organization development at the NTL Institute.  He is an active member of the Consulting Divisions of the NY State and the American Psychological Associations, as well as the Organization Development Network of Greater NY.

Our Professional Staff:

All of our treatment providers are NYS licensed psychologists.  All have earned doctorates in psychology.  Some already have substantial experience working with a geriatric population prior to joining Aging Matters.  For those with less geriatric experience when they first join our company, supervision is provided by an experienced geropsychologist (usually, Dr. Tomasso).  Also, a key criterion that drives our selection (and retention) of professional staff is their authentic interest in working with older adults, and their ability to uphold our company commitment - that aging truly matters.
